Grosses Gewaechs (GG)
German: Großes Gewächs (GG) Also known as: GG, Erstes Gewächs
VDP designation for dry top wines from the best sites (Grosse Lage) of member estates.
Grosses Gewächs is a quality designation of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP). It stands for dry wines from sites that the association classifies as Grosse Lage. Association rules apply, for example regarding grape varieties, yields and harvesting method.
In the Rheingau the term Erstes Gewächs is used for comparable wines. The abbreviation GG usually appears on the bottle; the term is not an official state Prädikat level but an association standard.
