Single origin

German: Single Origin Also known as: Sortenrein

Coffee that comes from a single country, region or even a single farm.

Single origin refers to coffee with a clearly identifiable, uniform provenance, for example from one country, region, cooperative or single farm. Variety, elevation and processing are often stated as well. The exact meaning is not uniformly regulated.

The advantage lies in traceability and the typical flavour profile of the origin. Single origins taste different from harvest to harvest because, unlike a blend, they are not balanced out.
