Darjeeling
A tea-growing area in north-eastern India at the foot of the Himalayas, known for fine black teas.
Darjeeling is a tea-growing area in the Indian state of West Bengal. The tea gardens lie on slopes, partly at considerable elevation. Cool nights, mist and the setting shape the character of the teas. The name is protected as a geographical indication.
Darjeeling tea is mostly made as black tea, but there are also green, white and oolong-like variants. Typical are a fine, muscatel-like or floral character and a rather light cup colour. The harvest periods (flushes) differ clearly in taste.
