Water treatment
German: Wasseraufbereitung in der Getränkeherstellung Also known as: Brauwasser, Mischwasser, Wasserbehandlung
Cleaning and adjusting process and mixing water for hardness, mineral content and purity, since water makes up most of most drinks.
Water is the main component of most drinks, so its quality strongly affects taste. In production it is therefore filtered, softened, dechlorinated or demineralised and, if needed, built up deliberately with minerals so that hardness, pH value and taste suit the style.
Methods include activated carbon filters, ion exchangers, reverse osmosis, UV treatment and degassing. For lemonade and beer, consistent water is particularly important. Depending on the drink, the requirements of the drinking water ordinance or further rules must be met. The applicable regulations are decisive.
