Pot still
German: Pot Still (Brennblase) Also known as: Pot Still, Brennkessel
Copper batch still used for distillation; typical for malt whisky, cognac and many rums.
The pot still is a bulbous, usually copper still in which one batch of mash or wine is distilled at a time. The vapour rises, is condensed and collected as distillate. Usually several distillation runs are needed.
Compared with the continuous column still, the pot still yields a more aromatic, less neutral distillate. Shape and size of the still influence character. It is used for example for single malt, cognac and Irish pot still whiskey.
